Interview: Pamela Hojilla, Legal Counsel
Why did you join the technology industry?
In private practice, I greatly enjoyed working with technology clients on strategic deals. They were entrepreneurial, creative and passionate about their products and services. When selecting an in-house position, it made sense to join the technology industry in order to be part of a culture that fosters innovation, efficiency and problem-solving.
Who is the person who has inspired you professionally?
My mom has inspired me throughout my life. She teaches by example and I’ve always been amazed by her work ethic and dedication to lifelong learning.
If you could give one piece of advice to your 13 year old self what would it be?
If you wish to move mountains tomorrow, you must start by lifting stones today.
How do you think we can encourage more women in tech? How do we encourage more women to consider STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) careers?
Acting as a mentor is an effective way of coaching and motivating others to follow your path.
Name one book that changed your life
Laura Esquivel’s Como agua para chocolate is the first book I read entirely in Spanish. It gave me such a great feeling of satisfaction that I continued to improve my level of Spanish. This eventually led to other opportunities such as studying and working in Spain and Mexico.
