The Partnership Will Increase the Hiring of More Diverse Tech Talent in Atlanta

Atlanta, Georgia –  March 9, 2018 Cogeco Peer 1, a global provider of essential business-to-business products and services, and Opportunity Hub, an inclusive innovation, entrepreneurship and investment ecosystem platform focused on disrupting poverty and the racial wealth gap in socially disadvantage communities, will team up at SXSW to address workplace inclusion and diversity.  Through Opportunity Hub’s recruitment initiative, HBCU@SXSW, Cogeco Peer 1 has committed to hiring minority students in technology, as interns for the summer. Cindy Jordan-Ford, Vice President and General Manager for Cogeco Peer 1, is scheduled to speak on the panel entitled, Solutions for Hiring Top Minority Tech Talent to raise awareness around increasing diversity in the IT sector.

“Most technology companies are actively seeking top minority tech talent, but don’t always know where to start,” stated Cindy Jordan-Ford. “Cogeco Peer 1 has proactively addressed this challenge and by collaborating with pioneering platforms like Opportunity Hub, we will be extending technology internship opportunities to minority students in the Metro Atlanta area.”

The 2018 HBCU@SXSW event will sponsor 125 minority students from 60 schools across America.  This immersive and interactive opportunity, will provide the them with the chance to network, connect, and be inspired by the brightest minds in emerging interactive technology. Attending this event, the students will take part in panels and discussions focused on diversity to enrich their event experience, including the opportunity to tour and interact with Cogeco Peer 1’s Map of the Internet Augmented Reality app at the company’s SXSW booth space.

“Partnering with international companies like Cogeco Peer 1 to intentionally hire highly skilled minority talent from socially disadvantaged communities in high demand positions is key to disrupting income inequality and creative multi-generational wealth,” expounds Rodney Sampson, Opportunity Hub’s CEO. “Hiring specifically in Atlanta aligns Cogeco Peer 1 with our #AtlTechRiseUp campaign launched in partnership with MailChimp and OHUB.”

The #AltTechRiseUp campaign seeks to foster opportunities that retain and attract diverse talent to the metro Atlanta area by challenging other Atlanta technology companies to take part in this initiative.

It is estimated that Hispanics and African Americans make up 7% and 9% of the STEM workforce. Diversity in the IT sector brings about new thinking, innovation and growth, and by partnering with Opportunity Hub, Cogeco Peer 1 is taking a step towards effecting positive change.

Cogeco Peer 1’s SXSW booths will be #425 at the Interactive portion, and #1614 at the Gaming portion.

About Opportunity Hub

Opportunity Hub (OHUB) was co-founded in 2013 by Rodney Sampson as a follow up to the highly successful Kingonomics’ conferences in Atlanta, GA and Washington, DC. The Atlanta-based organization has grown to become the largest multi-campus entrepreneurship center and technology hub in the United States specifically focused on diversity and inclusion as a business thesis for the development of high demand technical talent and high growth startup companies. Following a successful merger with TechSquare Labs in late 2015, the company today boasts 28 portfolio businesses estimated to be worth over $1 billion and has created more than 750 new high demand jobs.

Today, OHUB has re-positioned herself and is expanding globally as the definitive inclusive ecosystem building platform focused on four proven methodologies as a definitive path to creating amazing and unfathomable opportunities in socially disadvantaged and underrepresented communities and beyond. The four methodologies include early exposure, education & training, ecosystem building and capital formation across five sectors including brand, human resources, procurement, corporate innovation and social impact.

To scale its current work to date, Opportunity Hub is building a suite of collaborative and interconnected blockchain technology products, programs and partnerships with corporations, tech companies, foundations, government agencies and entrepreneurship-led ecosystem building organizations globally.
