Dedicated Cloud

Self-service dedicated cloud on hardware reserved for you

Hosts reserved for your workloads, provisioned by you and maintained by us.

Two men discussing a project

Reserved hosts, consistent performance.

Dedicated Cloud runs your virtual machines on physical hosts reserved for you, so the full capacity of those hosts belongs to your workloads and performance holds steady under load. You provision and manage the environment through Aptum Prizm, and Aptum keeps the hardware underneath running.

Benefits

Single-tenant hardware, operated by Aptum.

Dedicated Cloud gives you the isolation of your own hardware and the operating model of a cloud service. Aptum reserves the hosts, keeps them patched and runs the platform, so your team can spend its time on the workloads instead of the infrastructure they sit on.

Performance you can rely on

Your hosts are reserved for you, so the full capacity is there for your workloads. Capacity planning comes down to what you have reserved, which is a number you already know.

Costs you can put in a budget

A flat monthly price for the hosts reserved for you, with no egress fees and no IOPS charges. The price follows the capacity, so the number stays the same, whatever the month brings.

When single-tenant hardware is a requirement

Some workloads have to run on hardware no one else is using, whether that comes from your own compliance position or from a contract you have signed with a customer. Dedicated Cloud reserves the hosts for you, with private VLANs separating your environment on top of that.

You own the environment, we own the hardware

Your team owns the environments, the access controls and the firewall rules. Aptum owns the hosts and keeps them patched, so hardware maintenance stays with us.

A team that knows your environment

Aptum builds and runs the hosts your workloads sit on, so the people who pick up the phone already know how it is put together. Support runs around the clock.

One provider as the estate grows

Dedicated Cloud sits in the same portfolio as Shared Cloud, colocation, private cloud and public cloud, under one contract and one team, so your estate stays together as it grows.

Features

What you get with Aptum Dedicated Cloud

Your team provisions and manages compute, storage, networking and access through Aptum Prizm, and anything you can do in the interface can also be driven through the API. Underneath that, Aptum looks after the physical hosts and the platform they run on. Managed services, backup and security can be layered on whenever you want them.

Single-tenant compute

Your virtual machines run on physical hosts reserved for you, with the whole of that capacity available to your workloads.

Compute on demand

Provision, resize and decommission virtual machines yourself, in minutes, within the capacity you have reserved.

Storage to suit the workload

Your hosts use Aptum's shared storage by default, with dedicated storage available at additional cost where a workload needs its own.

Networking you control

Manage private VLANs, public IP blocks, firewall rules, port forwarding, VPN users and Layer 4 load balancing yourself.

Access control

Give each person the permissions their role needs, with role-based access control, and add two-factor authentication on top of it.

Infrastructure-as-code

Build and change environments in code with a full REST API and support for Terraform, as well as through the interface.

Cost visibility

See a real-time estimate before you deploy, and track spend by environment so you can charge it back to the right team or project.

Hosts managed by Aptum

Aptum patches and maintains the physical hosts and the platform layer, so your team only has to think about what runs on them.

Choosing between Shared Cloud, Dedicated Cloud and Private Cloud

The three sit on a spectrum of how much of the stack is yours and how much is ours. Shared Cloud pools the hardware, Dedicated Cloud reserves it for you, and Private Cloud hands you the virtualisation layer to run as well. The table is the short version, and an Aptum cloud expert can size the right one against a real workload.

At a glance Shared Cloud Dedicated Cloud Private Cloud
Hosts Shared physical hosts Reserved, single-tenant hosts Single-tenant, dedicated
Compute Pooled across shared hosts Reserved and fully managed hosts, with no other tenants on your compute Customer managed dedicated hosts
Storage Shared storage, Standard or Performance SSD Shared storage by default, with dedicated storage available at additional cost Local storage, or Aptum provided SAN
Virtualisation Aptum's cloud platform Aptum's cloud platform VMware or Proxmox
Who manages the host layer Aptum Aptum You, or Aptum if you ask us to
Best when You want the most cost-effective route, from development through production A workload needs consistent performance, or compliance requires single-tenant hardware You want to run VMware or Proxmox, or to own the virtualisation layer yourself

Shared Cloud and Dedicated Cloud are both self-service through Aptum Prizm. A workload can move between them as its requirements change, and your team manages it the same way on either side of the move.

Do you want to operate the entire stack and control the configuration in detail? Consider Aptum's Private Cloud offering.

Why Aptum

Why teams choose Aptum

Dedicated Cloud comes with the people and the estate around it. Aptum builds the environment, runs the hardware it sits on, and stays available for as much or as little of the day-to-day as you want. The rest of the portfolio is there for the workloads that belong somewhere else.

Hardware reserved for you, run by us

Aptum reserves the hosts, patches them and keeps the platform healthy. Your team consumes the capacity and spends its time on the workloads.

A price you can commit to

Aptum charges a flat monthly rate for the hosts you reserve, with no egress or disk-activity charges. You can put the number in a budget before you deploy and it holds.

More than one place to put a workload

Managed services, backup and security sit on top of Dedicated Cloud, and Aptum's professional services team can plan and run the migration, including migrations from VMware.

Hardware Aptum owns and runs

The platform runs on hardware Aptum owns and manages, in data centres we operate from across Canada, the US and the UK. The people who answer the phone can fix the whole stack.

Here's what our customers say:

"We're dealing with technology. It's not all perfect. But Aptum's managed services team is always there to ensure that things are done well and that we are fully supported when things go wrong. Stuff happens. But I know when it does, I can count on Aptum to fix it."

“The experience is that things just work. When there’s something to be done, it’s done quickly, and it’s done right first time. Don’t underestimate the number of organizations out there, particularly in IT support, that just miss the mark.”

FAQs

Common questions

What is Dedicated Cloud?

Dedicated Cloud is Aptum infrastructure where your virtual machines run on physical hosts reserved for you, with the whole of that capacity available to your workloads. You provision and manage everything through Aptum Prizm, and Aptum runs the hosts underneath. This model is also called single-tenant cloud infrastructure.

How is it different from Shared Cloud?

Shared Cloud runs your virtual machines on hosts shared with other customers, which is what makes it the more cost-effective option. Dedicated Cloud reserves the hosts for you, so the full capacity of those hosts is available to your workloads and performance stays consistent. Private VLANs separate your environment in either model, and both are self-service through Aptum Prizm.

How is it different from Private Cloud?

On Dedicated Cloud, Aptum manages the hosts and the platform layer and your team consumes the resources. On Private Cloud you run VMware or Proxmox, and your team usually owns the virtualisation layer unless you ask Aptum to manage it for you.

Is it self-service or managed?

Both, at different layers. Your team provisions and manages the virtual machines, the networking and the access, and Aptum always manages the physical hosts. You can hand more of it to Aptum's managed services team at any point.

How does pricing work?

You pay a fixed monthly rate for the hosts you reserve, so the compute cost is known before you deploy. Dedicated storage is priced separately if you add it. There are no egress charges and no per-transaction IOPS fees.

Where does my data live?

On hardware Aptum owns, in data centres Aptum operates from. Each Aptum region is a fully separate environment, so your data stays in the region you choose.

Can I move a workload from Shared Cloud?

Yes. Both run on the same platform through the same portal, so you can put workloads that need their own hardware on dedicated hosts as you grow.
