Build and Optimise Hybrid Cloud Strategy

Build a hybrid cloud strategy where every workload is where it belongs

We map what you are running, agree with you where each workload should go, and keep it running from there.

Illustration of two people designing private cloud solution

Most hybrid environments happen by accident. Yours can be built by design.

Your workloads are probably running where they were first put, for reasons that made sense at the time and may not now. Aptum works with you to map what you have and what each workload needs, agree where it should run across shared, dedicated, private and public cloud, connect those environments so they work as one, and keep it all running afterwards.

You might recognise some of this:

Cloud costs you cannot explain

Your cloud spend is spread across several providers and invoices, and nobody on your team can explain the total or say which workloads are driving the growth.

Workloads that landed by default

Your applications are running where they happened to land rather than where they belong, and nobody has revisited those decisions since the day they were made.

Governance split across tools

Your access, monitoring and policy are handled separately in each environment, so a change you make in one place does not reliably show up in the others.

A provider that only reacts

Your provider closes tickets competently but never gets ahead of anything, so your own team is the one spotting problems first.

An incident nobody caught

Downtime or a security issue got through, and the review afterwards showed the gap in your monitoring had been open for a while.

A migration you keep deferring

You know some of your workloads are in the wrong place, but the effort to move them competes with everything else and keeps slipping down the list.

Our Approach

How Aptum designs and optimises your hybrid strategy

A hybrid strategy is a set of placement decisions plus the operating model that holds them together. We run the assessment those decisions come from, and we make the moves with you. Then we operate the environment, so the decisions hold.

01

Assess what you run

Our Hybrid Cloud Assessment and Operational Maturity Assessment map your estate and recommend where each workload should live.

02

Agree where each workload goes

Shared cloud, dedicated cloud, private cloud, colocation or a hyperscaler, chosen against what the workload needs.

03

Connect the environments together

Networking between sites, clouds and offices, so the parts of your estate work as one single environment.

04

Take on the running

Aptum's managed services keep the environment monitored, patched and running, so your team stops firefighting.

What we consider when we design it with you

Every workload has a handful of characteristics that shape where it should run. We work these through these with your team during the assessment, against your own estate and your own constraints.

Isolation requirements

Isolation requirements

Whether a workload needs its own hardware, because a compliance framework calls for it or because performance has to be predictable.

Hands-on control over whatever you run with us

Some of your workloads may end up on Aptum infrastructure, and some may not. For the ones that do, Aptum Prizm is included at no extra cost, and it is where your team provisions and manages your Shared Cloud and Dedicated Cloud environments, and sees and manages aspects of your Azure and AWS usage alongside them.

Role-based permissions, a real-time view of cost and a single activity log mean the people who need visibility get it without waiting on a report.

Anything Aptum manages outside the portal is reported on by the team, so the operating model stays consistent across your estate either way.

Why Aptum

Why teams choose Aptum

A hybrid strategy needs somebody who can run the assessment, own the migration and then operate what they built.

We can plan and execute the moves and run the environment afterward, so the same team is accountable from the recommendation through to the running.

Assessment before recommendation

Aptum assesses first and recommends second, and will tell you when a workload belongs somewhere Aptum does not host it.

Every environment, one provider

Aptum hosts and manages shared cloud, dedicated cloud, private cloud, colocation and the hyperscalers.

One team, end to end

Assessment, migration and ongoing management come from the same team, so one group of people is accountable for the outcome from the first conversation to the running environment.

A team that works ahead

Managed services monitors and maintains the environment, so issues get found and dealt with before they turn into incidents.

“We’re dealing with technology. It’s not all perfect. But Aptum’s managed services team is always there to ensure that things are done well and that we are fully supported when things go wrong. Stuff happens. But I know when it does, I can count on Aptum to fix it.”

“The experience is that things just work. When there’s something to be done, it’s done quickly, and it’s done right first time. Don’t underestimate the number of organizations out there, particularly in IT support, that just miss the mark.”

FAQs

Common questions

What is a hybrid cloud strategy?

A hybrid cloud strategy is a deliberate set of decisions about which workloads run where, across public cloud, private cloud, dedicated infrastructure and on-premises, together with the operating model that keeps those decisions in force. The strategy is the placement logic and the accountability for it, not the tooling.

How do I decide where a workload belongs?

By looking at what the workload needs. Whether it requires its own hardware, whether cost is the binding constraint, whether the data has to stay in a particular country, whether demand is steady or bursty, whether it depends on a specific hypervisor, and how much of the running you want to keep. A hybrid cloud assessment works through those with you against your own estate.

What is the difference between hybrid cloud and multi-cloud?

Multi-cloud usually means using more than one hyperscaler, and multi-cloud tools add a dashboard over those accounts. Hybrid means public cloud alongside private cloud, dedicated infrastructure or on-premises. Aptum can help you host and operate the hybrid cloud.

Do I have to move everything to Aptum?

No. Each workload goes where it fits. Some move, some stay where they are, and Aptum can manage across all of it either way.

Can I see all my environments in one place?

You manage Aptum IaaS in Aptum Prizm, and see and manage aspects of your Azure and AWS usage alongside it.

How is this different from the dashboard my current provider gives me?

A dashboard reports on what is happening. Aptum works out with you where each workload should be, moves it, and then operates it, so the accountability sits with the same team that made the recommendation.

How do I start?

With a hybrid cloud assessment. It maps what you are running, recommends where each workload should live, and gives you the sequence to get there.
